Project Introduction


The Top Seed Talent Program is a special initiative by ByteDance’s Doubao (Seed) Team aimed at recruiting exceptional talents from campuses. We hope to continuously attract and recruit top individuals who are committed to "changing the world with technology."


To further invest in top talents, we are now launching the Top Seed Research Internship Program for outstanding students. This program aims to discover and cultivate young talents with forward-thinking visions.


As a Top Seed Research Intern, you will


  • Explore the most challenging, long-term critical issues related to the topics you are interested in;

  • Find like-minded partners, freely form your research group, and enjoy ample support in computing power and data resources;

  • Receive long-term training and growth, in-depth guidance from top mentors, and opportunities to exchange ideas with leading scholars both domestically and internationally.

Candidates we are looking for


PhD students graduating in September 2025 or later


  • Have a strong ambition to change the world through technology and devote themselves to technical fields such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, large models, computer vision, audio and video generation, etc.

  • Be inherently outstanding, innovative, and self-driven. We value the innate brilliance in you more than your existing experience and achievements.

What you can gain as a Top Seed intern


1. Shared Top Seed project topics with higher freedom for long-term research


Challenge yourself with topics in areas such as large models, natural language processing, computer vision, speech, machine learning systems, and more.


Large Models: Explore training methods for large models.


Multimodal Understanding and Generation: Research base models for image, audio, and video understanding and generation.


Machine Learning Algorithms and Systems: Focus on innovations in Foundation Model algorithms, ultra-large-scale training clusters, and next-generation computing architecture design.


2. Cooperation with a team of top mentors to challenge world-class problems with committed professionals


Mingxuan Wang: Head of ByteDance Doubao Large Language Model Research Team. Focuses on key areas such as model super alignment, interpretability, and synthesized data.


Yan Lin: Head of ByteDance Doubao Large Language Model Alignment Team. Focuses on key areas such as instruction fine-tuning, reward models, RLHF, RLAIF, and self-learning models.


Wanjun Zhong: Researcher in ByteDance Doubao Large Language Model Research Team. Focuses on super alignment and inference in large language models. Leads AGIEval, which is a large language model benchmark suite widely used by major companies.


Jiashi Feng: Head of ByteDance Doubao Visual Basic Research Team. Focuses on related studies on computer vision, and machine learning and their applications in multimedia.


Zhi Tian: Technical expert in ByteDance Doubao Large Model Visual Generative Models. Focuses on computer vision generation and understanding algorithms, with multiple influential papers published in top conferences and journals.


Zhuo Chen: Head of ByteDance Doubao Large Model Audio Generation Research Team. He has published over 100 research papers and patents, advancing the frontiers of multiple speech tasks.


Chenggang Li: Head of Pretraining at ByteDance Doubao Large Language Model. His research areas include data cleaning, synthesis and proportioning, association learning and course learning, training algorithms and scaling capability, etc.

4. Long-term tailored training


We offer top industry rewards for outstanding interns. Directly interviewed by mentors, you will experience long-term development (over a year) and focus on research.


  • 1-2 months: Fully trust newcomers, allowing for research, learning, familiarizing with the industrial environment, and exploring research directions.

  • 2-6 months: Mentors help identify the most core and valuable topics from massive research and form research direction awareness.

  • 6-12 months: Advance research with frequent discussions on ideas and questions with mentors and produce stage results.

Q: What is the difference between the Top Seed Internship Specialty Program and the Top Seed Talent Program?


A: The Top Seed Talent Program is a full-time program designed for recent PhD graduates, while the Top Seed Internship Specialty Program targets current PhD students. Students can apply based on their graduation dates. We also support remote internships and campus-enterprise cooperation.


Q: Can I choose the research topics I'm interested in within the Top Seed Internship Special Project?


A: Within the major topics that Top Seed, we encourage interns to explore their specific areas of interest. Mentors will help assess the feasibility, value, and implementation of the research, helping you identify the most worthwhile topic for long-term efforts.


Q: Does the Top Seed Internship Specialty Program offer opportunities for promotion to full-time positions?


A: The Top Seed Internship Specialty Program aims to attract and recruit top AI talents, offering sufficient space, resources, and challenges to aid in growth. High-performing interns may be offered full-time positions. The result of such promotion will be evaluated based on students' performance during the internship. However, the promotion to a full-time position via the internship does not guarantee automatic enrollment into the Top Seed campus recruitment. The decision is to be evaluated based on the individual's performance in the promotion interview.


Q: If I do not pass the Top Seed Internship Specialty Program interview, can I still apply for other internship projects?


A: Yes. Resumes not selected for the Top Seed Internship Specialty Program will be recommended to the Seed Team's regular internship recruitment positions for re-screening. You may also choose to apply for other internship roles in ByteDance.


Q: What is the recruitment time and interview process for the Top Seed Internship Specialty Program?


A: The Top Seed Internship Special Project is open for recruitment year-round, with technical interviews conducted directly by mentors.
